BYU brings an unusual NIL profile to the Big 12. Its fanbase extends far beyond Provo through the worldwide membership of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, and donor backing has produced some of the most aggressive spending in college basketball, including the widely reported multimillion-dollar package that helped land AJ Dybantsa, the nation's top recruit, in 2025. Football draws on the same donor energy, though on a smaller scale. Under the House settlement BYU can also pay athletes directly, subject to the cap that began around $20.5 million and increases annually. As a private institution it discloses little, so outside a few heavily covered basketball deals, most published figures for BYU athletes are estimates.
