SMU joined the ACC in 2024 on unusual terms, agreeing to forgo conference media distributions for nine years and to cover the gap with donor money, a signal of how much Dallas wealth backs the program. That same donor base powers its NIL scene, anchored by the Boulevard Collective, which helped fund the roster that reached the College Football Playoff in the Mustangs' first ACC season. Under the 2025 House settlement, SMU can also share revenue directly with athletes, up to about 20.5 million dollars in the first year with the cap growing annually. Between institutional payments and one of the most committed booster networks in the sport, SMU operates a well funded NIL market for its size.
